Match Report - 19 Sep 2009, Aldershot and Farnham Hockey Club Mens 3 lost to Alton 2

Away to Alton 2nd team, I think 2 leagues above. The home side started well and AF3 didnt have any possession for 2 or 3 minutes but Alton failed to capitalize on their possession and it was AF3 who should have taken the lead after staunch defending by Lemmy at left back led to a 3 on 1 break. Alas, the finishing was poor and the game remained scoreless. And that pretty much is how it went all game. Lots of possession to Alton but AF3 dangerous in the break but toothless in fromt of goal. Chance after chance went begging for AF3 and eventually they paid the price as the deadlock was broken and Alton took the lead, then they doubled it and early in the second half went 3 up. Never a team to "let it lie" AF3 finally rose to the task and pushed the confident Alton midfield back into their own half. This caused Alton untold problems as we started to starve them of the possession they had enjoyed. Soon a goal was clawed back, then another and in the dying seconds debutant Fraser Watson had glory beckoning, only for the flying figure of Lemmy, all the way from the AF3 left back to the oppo circle ( no surprise there then !! ) to get in the way and the chance went agonisingly wide.

On reflection, AF3 again were not beaten by a better side but managed to lose this one thru their own mistakes. However, a good performance against a higher ranked side leaves new capt Mike "Stavros" Budd in good spirits.

Thanks again to umpire JC Hall for a good game behind the whistle and best of luck to Alton for the season.

 NameGoalsDetails
1Kriss Tupper   GK - Solid between the sticks but keep a lid on the temper !!!
2Hamish Hall   RB - Really good game, bearing in mind he is a keeper !
3Paul Hales   SWP - Solid, dependable but still northern.
4Nigel Oates   LB - Wheeled out of his oxygen tent for a great performance - Used his head well which is good because he has no pace.
5Simon Parrott   CB - Ahh .. The long awaited return of the Lovey. Lasts 15 mins then the poor love hurts his back .... Living proof that northerners are not tougher than southerners..
6Ben White   DH - Good range of passing and keep that head up !
7Fraser Watson   CH - 1st game in 12 years !!! Lasted all of the 1st 10 mins at the start of game before going off for a breather ! Then back on for the full game and the years just rolled back ... ish .. sort of !! Great debut, fitted in well and longmay the midlife crisis continue !!
8Chris Milsted   Usual amount of sweat and tears from Jesus. Also the usual standard of finishing in front of goal. Yep, hes back to his normal not being able to hit a barndoor door with a tractor. In discussions it was commented that it is always hugely entertaining to watch Jesus play hockey. Make of this what you will.
9Rob Mullard   RH - All action and to take the next step needs to adjust style of play slightly to hold on to possession in tight spots.Other than that a sure fire 3rd team starter who is looking to go up the teams soon.
10Ian Cooper   HB - Up from the 4th team - Good all round performance from the Eagle eyed Action man !!
11Dan Spickett   2 FWD - Got two goals and his speed is a real danger - However, it could have been soo much more
12Mike Budd   FWD (Capt) - 1st game as captain and probably had an effect. Stavros just needed to calm down in front of goal and let it flow, which we are sure will come.
