Match Report - 10 Oct 2009, Aldershot and Farnham Hockey Club Mens 4 lost to Reigate Priory Men's 5's
Mmmn.
Another one of those (not very many) games at the start of the season that feels / felt like a pre-season warm up.
Playing a bunch of under 13s and their dads (mums and dogs all on the sideline) they played like they all knew each other. We looked like we were still in summer bbq mode.
Lots of smoke, hot occassionally, generally undercooked.
Having weathered a ten minute first half storm, scoring first should have set a decent platform to work up a head of steam. Conceding an immediate equaliser to a chap with a hip shuffle reminiscent of a young Elvis and a physique akin to burger mode Elvis told the story of the game.
Young / old Elvis did his bit and we found ourselves 4-2 down at the break. A more even second half saw us get stronger, although not neccessarily more accurate of pass, shared goals reflecting a relative share of territory, if not possession.
Bit of a wake up call, all in all, in this new league for the second game running. Lots of work to be done - a few more games under the belt will help. Early season report: could do better.
On the plus side, our goals were well worked (Mike 2, Daz 1) and well taken. Which went to prove, the sizzle is there, if the fire is burning...
