Match Report - 26 Sep 2009, Aldershot and Farnham Hockey Club Ladies 1 beat Basingstoke Fossils Vets
1st league match, 1st match with new coach Jamie Fowler on the sideline, 1st 10 minutes were awful! Basingstoke won a couple of short corners but A&F defended adequately and their confidence started to grow. The team began to gel quickly and attack the Fossils. The forwards made tireless runs and created space which the midfield exploited, and used to punish Basingstoke.
Laura James, making her A&F league debut, scored from open play and a short corner. Not to be outdone, Alice Woodward joined in with 3 goals to give A&F a 5-1 lead.
A quick change in possession led to A&F being caught out of position, and the defence were momentarily outnumbered. Basingstoke capitalised and scored a consolation goal.
But A&F were not finished. With the final play of the match they won a short corner. Laura James maximised the opportunity, and completed her hat trick with a straight strike which Basingstoke could only deflect into the roof of their goal.
A 6-1 win was deeemed an acceptable start to the league!
