The U12 girls had a very successful day today, winning both their matches. The first against a well organised Basingstoke side was a tight game with only one goal the difference. All the girls played well, demonstrating some great linking play and having many more chances than the scoreline would suggest. Basingstoke had some very tall skillful players and although AFHC was winning at half time, they came back into the match strongly in the second half forcing some excellent defending by all the girls. The match ended 1-0 to AFHC who on balance deserved the win given the many chances they had. The second match against Fleet was straight after that tough battle. It is a big ask for girls this age to play one hour of hockey straight. Adam had asked them to bring energy to the game and they definitely stepped up to the mark against Fleet. The team was determined to beat local rivals Fleet and quickly appeared to be comfortably ahead of the opposition. A fantastic goal meant AFHC again went into half time one goal up. However, Fleet came into the second half determined to win the game back and with some fantastic attacks nearly scored multiple times before they eventually levelled the score at 1-1. At this point, the game seemed finely balanced and some of our younger players who had worked their socks off were starting to tire, however, just when we started to worry the game might end in a draw, a brilliant second goal from AFHC was cheered to the rafters and settled the fixture. Well done to all the girls who worked very hard today.
