Thanks to George for captaining and for providing this match report.
This was the 4s 1st league game and a new development squad, slowly getting to know each others names, youngsters and some previous generation players!
The first 20 minutes seemed quite evenly matched, playing down both ends of the pitch. Then it seemed like a different game as if Winchester were holding back, and the opposition goals began, 3-1 at half time. Harry scoring for Shots.
2nd half, more pressure from Winchester, their teens were fast and relentless and played some nice 1-2s making it difficult to intercept. An early season lesson for us to strive to improve for as we all gel together.
Our 2nd goal was great and simple: half way side line ball, Tom-Tony-Lewis, a simple run gaining space, pass to Harry and a goal. Simple passes, took 30 seconds!! We definitely need more of these moves.
After speaking to Winchester it was great to know that due to a cancellation of another team, this wasn't their normal squad.
A special thanks to James for sorting teas ( whilst away on holiday), pizza was great and we fed the oppo up too, (hopefully will slow them down next time).
Well done also for many of our team coming back and hosting teas. It makes a big difference to morale! (Even with a few players helping elsewhere in the club).
Man of the match has to go to Josh, our keeper, for saving what seemd like hundreds of shots!!
DofD goes to Alfie for missing an open goal, closely followed by Will for leaving his phone at the club house. Due to Alfie pointing out his miss on an open goal he gets the award (keep quiet next time Alfie and see what people remember!!)
I'm certain that things will work out in the future and results will be more positive. I hear that there might be a grand master!! appearance next time ( fingers crossed)
At the end we all worked hard and did the best we could, well done, onwards and upwards. George ???
Next up is Basingstoke in 2 weeks. Plenty of time to practice and improve our match fitness. Go 4s! James (Captain).
